Not to be missed is the Mus้e Oc้anographique or the Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium which dates back to 1910 commissioned by Prince Albert. It is perched precariously on the edge of the cliff and looks simply stunning. The museum displays the Prince’s collection of marine life and ship prototypes. Head down to the basement where the aquarium is located and be amazed with its 7.5 meter long coral reef showcasing colorful tropical fishes on one side and nightmarish sea predators on the other. There are ninety other tanks containing around 4,000 fish species and invertebrates.
Since Monte Carlo is the venue of the most glamorous car race in the world, it’s just apt to include a survey of classic cars in your itinerary. The place to go is the Collection de Voitures Anciennes which displays a total of 100 classics such as a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud and a 1929 Bugatti, the very first F1 Monaco Grand Prix racing car champion.
Other than the Grand Prix, the city is also a regular host to many sporting happenings such as boxing championships, Monte Carlo Rally and poker grand finals. These all-star affairs make checking out the city’s events calendar worth it.
For other entertainment options, first on the list is the Monte Carlo Casino. Even if you do not have intentions of sitting at a table, it is still worth stopping by to experience first hand the exciting atmosphere and the lavish display of wealth inside the casino’s gaming room. It is also home to Salle Garnier where many cultural events such as concerts, ballet recitals and opera performances take place. Its restaurants, cafes and clubs are also some of the best in the area.
