Marbella Delights

If you are not familiar with Marbella, you must wonder where in the world it is located. If you are heading or planning to go to Europe, then you’d be glad to know that it is situated in exciting Spain. This country is a must-see destination for passionate travelers who love to eat scrumptious cuisine, admire fantastic architecture and enjoy the company of enthralling people.

Marbella is a famous resort town in the region of Andulasia. Although it started out as a sleepy fishing village, it is now pulsating with vibrant energy typical of any popular tourist destination. However, Marbella is anything but typical. The area has so much diversity to offer that visitors of varying tastes will find exciting.

The Old Town is the obvious first stop when in Marbella. Its winding cobblestone thoroughfares are an attraction on their own. One can’t help but admire the lovely houses, with their vibrant flower boxes and gorgeous facades, that line the streets.  Let your feet take you where the lanes may lead you, you’ll be delightfully surprised with what you’ll find. Go ahead and check out what’s in the corner, you just might find a charming old square that’ll make your entire trip even more special.

If you find yourself in Calle Trinidad, you can’t miss the imposing 14th century Iglesia de la Encarnacion Church. Do get inside and check out the Sol Mayor organ - hailed as one of the most stunning of its kind in the entire Andalusia.

You can then proceed to Calle Alonso de Bazแn and take a look at the Contemporary Spanish Print Gallery. You may be interested to know that the gallery is housed in an old infirmary, which explains the bizarre layout. After your short visit at the gallery, you’re off to the ruins of the Moorish fortress where you’ll find the remnants of Spain’s dominant forces as it re-conquered the territory from Muslim rule back in the day.

For lunch, it’s best to go to Plaza de los Naranjos. Choose one of the outdoor restaurants or cafes in the area and enjoy the pretty sight of a Renaissance fountain set against fine-looking buildings and orange groves. The 15th century chapel and the Town Hall complete the scenic picture.

If you are set for some shopping, Calle Molinillos is the place to go for souvenirs; Calle Nueva will lead you to the fashion palace of K-2; and Puerto Banus is the ultimate destination for signature luxury brands.

Aside from shopping, Puerto Banus is also a popular playground of the rich and famous. Check the countless classy yachts in the marina, sleek luxury cars along the streets, exquisite restaurants in the promenade, and the fashionable individuals that laze around the area.

If you have time for a short day trip, do visit San Pedro de Alcantara where you’ll find the ruins of an ancient Roman settlement. You also want to check out the baths of B๓vedas, the 4th century Basilica Vega del Mar and the Roman Villa de rio Verde while you are there. San Pedro de Alcantara is also home to some of the most scenic beaches in the area where you can spend a delightful afternoon to cap off your tour of Marbella.
