Day Trips Outside Genoa

One of the best things about Genoa, aside from its chocolate box atmosphere and scrumptious cuisine, is the easy accessibility it provides to nearby destinations that are likewise as stunning. Depending on your interest, you'll find something worth exploring in the surrounding areas near Genoa. So, hop on a car, a train or a ferry and be on your way to other remarkable Italian vicinities.

If you want to party with the rich and famous then the popular resort town of Portofino is a must visit for you. It offers some of the most luxurious hotels in the country and its beaches are a flurry of exciting activities. The seafront promenade is the best place for people watching if you are looking for that famous movie star or if you want to go window shopping for expensive signature brands. However, if you want a break from the hustle and bustle, take a long walk to Monte di Portofino and treat yourself to a beautiful panorama of the surrounding area that is sure to take your breath away.

A big contrast from Portofino is the quaint fishing village of Camogli. It is only a short ferry ride away but it is a world apart from its more famous neighbor. This small yet charming village is the place to go if you want to experience the friendliness of the locals and the charming small-town Italian lifestyle. It also features some of the loveliest churches in the region that are definitely worth taking a look at.

If it is romance you are looking for, then you can't miss the gorgeous town of Pegli. It is especially made for the romantics with its picturesque lakes, lovely fountains and gorgeous castles. The 16th-century villas of Doria and Pallavicini will surely make you fall in love with its charming atmosphere and scenic surroundings. Just hop on a train from Genoa and in a few minutes, you will be transported to this delightful wonderland.

Those who are interested in local handicrafts should check out the nearby town of Albisola. Its residents are known to craft some of the most beautiful ceramics in the country. You can even try your hands on ceramic-making and see for yourself if you have the talent for it. If not, you can just easily purchase one. There are plenty of shops lining the promenade where you can pick a perfect souvenir for your visit. Aside from ceramics, the town is also known for the beautiful villa of Durazzo-Faraggiana. It dates back to the 18th century and certainly worth a visit.

There is also something special waiting for outdoor enthusiasts. The town of Casella is the place to go if you want to take a hike. Its picturesque hills and scenic foot paths are perfect for easy treks and nature walks.

Finally, if beaches are what you are going for, then the seaside resort of Varazze is your destination of choice. Its lengthy shores and sparkling beaches are perfect not only for swimming and lounging but also for pleasant strolls. The town center is also worth exploring for its historical landmarks and charming lay-out.  Enjoy.
