Kotor is another popular destination in Montenegro. It is ideally located in Kotor Bay surrounded by mountain ranges, the highest of which is Mt. Lovcen. This charming little town is the place to go if you want to be transported back to the middle ages. Its narrow streets, elegant squares and beautifully preserved medieval houses coupled with the breathtaking view of its natural surroundings make this place a favorite among couples looking for a romantic ambiance.
Less than an hours drive from Kotor is the town of Cetinje, nestled on the foothills of Lovcen Mountain. The town is heralded as Montenegro's historical capital due to the abundance of museums and impressively preserved buildings of times past. It is home to its namesake 12th century monastery and its valuable collection of medieval treasures.
Due to its historical significance, it was aptly chosen as the location of the grandiose Government Palace. Other visit-worthy attractions in the area include the National Museum of Montenegro, the stone building Biljarda and its Njegos Museum and the Palace of King Nikola I.
