Two Oscar winners to speak @ World Congress Savers in Singapore

Academy Award winners, Mira Sorvino and Louie Psihoyos will head to Singapore next month for the Cond Nast Traveler World Savers Congress. The event, which will be held at Suntec Singapore on 20 October, will discuss initiatives to limit the environmental impact of tourism, and to improve the health, education and economic well-being of communities worldwide. The two Academy Award winners, who have built illustrious careers in Hollywood, will be speaking about the environmental and humanitarian causes they champion to an audience of more than 250 CEOs and senior executives across the global and regional travel industry.


Celebrities who have addressed past World Savers Congresses includes actors Matt Damon and Ed Norton, musician Wyclef Jean and actress and activist Ashley Judd. Sorvino, whose career highlights include an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite as well as a Golden Globe nomination for her role as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in the television mini-series Human Trafficking, is an appointed United Nations (UN) Office on Drugs and Crime Goodwill Ambassador.


The UN agency fights all forms of human trafficking including child soldiers, sex slaves, forced labour, illegal adoption and illegal organ transfers. At the congress, Sorvino will address the A s fight against human trafficking, an issue which she has been passionately championing since 2007. Psihoyos is the director behind The Cove-a controversial documentary chronicling the plight of hunted dolphins in Japan, which won an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 2010. Using his art to bring about awareness for preserving the underwater world, Psihoyos is also the Executive Director of the Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS), a non-profit organisation that inspires people to save the ocean through the medium of photography and film. Psihoyos, who's currently working on his next film,


The Singing Planet, will speak on the perils of environmental destruction when he's in Singapore next month. Music, movies and TV are powerful mediums that touch and influence our everyday lives. Aims and Louie have used their talents in varied ways all for a common goal, which is to help drive awareness of these pressing humanitarian and environmental issues that concern us all.We hope that the sharing of their experiences and passion will inspire others, both consumers and the corporate sector, to take action because they have the power to make a difference, said Klara Glowczewska, Editor in Chief, Cond Nast Traveler.


This year's world Savers Congress will be held outside of the United States for the first time and will feature a powerful line-up of industry speakers and panellists including Greg Dogan, President & CEO, Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, I Kwon Ping, Executive Chairman, Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, Hubert Joly, President, CEO and Director, Carlson, Lee Tabler, CEO, Abu Dhabi Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), Sonu Shivdasani, Chairman & CEO, Six Senses Spas & Resorts and William Heinecke, Chairman & CEO, Minor International. The congress will also have five panel sessions, such as a Travel Industry CEO Panel, a panel exploring Success Stories of NGOs and others focusing on initiatives by global travel industry leaders, Poverty Relief & Education, Health, and Preservation & Conservation.
