Day Trips from Lyon France

Choosing a day trip from Lyon is not easy. There are just too many must-see destinations to choose from such as lovely vineyard towns, ancient Roman ruins, scenic hiking trails, picture-perfect villages and so much more. The list is practically endless. Here are some nearby towns and villages that you might not want to miss.

The hilltop village of Perouges should be on top of everybody's day trip list. It is hailed as one of the most beautiful villages in France and begs to be seen. There is always something to gush about wherever you set your eyes on, from the muted colors of its cobblestone streets to its charming architecture. Before you leave the village, check out the local cafes and give your sweet tooth a treat with the mouthwatering local pastry known as galette de Perouges.

Next on the list is the picturesque valley of Beaujolais. It is a favorite hiking and biking destination in the country. The trails are all mapped-out so all you have to do is to get a free map from your hotel and you are set to go. If you just want to chill out, you can visit the town's vineyards and enjoy scenic vistas of endless rolling greenery while you take a sip of the local vintage wine. You may also want to drop by the 15th century castle of Chateau de Corcelles, explore its historic grounds and indulge in Beaujolais wine at the same time.

If you are up for some tidbits of Roman history, then a visit to the town Vienne is called for. It was once an affluent Roman colony as shown in the Gallo-Roman ruins that still stand to this day. Lazy strolls around the ancient city will take you to lovely fountains, blooming gardens, public baths and a huge amphitheatre. Music lovers should visit on the month of June for the world famous Festival du Jazz a Vienne.

If you are looking for an enthralling party atmosphere then Grenoble is the right fit for you. It is a dynamic university town and has everything going for the exuberant visitor looking for a great time. For a fantastic panorama of the city, hop on a gondola and proceed to the 16th century fort of Bastille where you will find a sweeping view of Lyon's landscape beautifully laid out before you. Grenoble is also the ideal base if you are looking into an outdoor excursion. Whether you are into hiking, biking or skiing you will find Grenoble's exhilarating slopes and trails perfect for your sport of choice.

Finally, if you are looking for a romantic jaunt outside of the city then the stunning lakeside town of Annecy should not be missed. Its Vielle Ville is made to be explored on foot. Its lovely canals are a must-see with blooming flowers accompanying you along the way. If you want to see more of these blooming beauties, visit the spectacular Jardin de l'Europe and bring along a picnic basket with you because the Champ de Mars is just across the Lovers Bridge found in the garden.

Annecy's surrounding areas are also great for hiking with trails to La Forอt du Crอt du Maure of the Semnoz forest, the summit of La Tournette and the twin peaks of Mont Veyrier and Mont Baron.
