Singapore Airlines is to add a sixth continent to its route network in March 2011 with the launch of three times a week flights between Singapore and Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, via Barcelona, Spain. Sao Paulo will be the airline's first South American destination. A dynamic metropolis, the largest city in Brazil s is an art and entertainment center, and an influential player in the areas of trade and finance within the region. Flights will operate between Barcelona and the International Airport Guarulhos of Sao Paulo s under codeshare agreements with Star Alliance partner Spanair. Codeshare to facilitate travel by network Spanair s in Sao Paulo through its hub of Barcelona. The code is already adds Spanair flights from Bilbao, Madrid, Barcelona and Palma Mallorca. We are very excited about this new service, which will help to boost ties between Singapore and Brazil and pave the way for greater trade, travel and tourism links between Asia and South America. It will also provide a direct link between Barcelona and Sao Paulo, said Mr Bey Soo Khiang, Singapore Airlines Senior Executive Vice President of marketing & Corporate Services. Singapore Airlines has been eyeing opportunities in fast growing South American market for some time. Singapore Airlines currently flies daily between Singapore and Barcelona via Milano in Italy. With the new service, three non-stop flights will operate between Singapore and Barcelona while four will continue to operate on a routing To Singapore-Milan-Barcelona ensure that both Barcelona and Milan will continue to be served seven times a week, three times a week non-stop Singapore-Milan services will be introduced.
