Attractions in Norways Arctic Circle

The Arctic Circle may be a favorite Norway destination for avid adrenalin junkies but even if you don't care for extreme adventures you will also find your own cozy little haven in the area. The plethora of spectacular scenery alone is enough reason for any type of visitor to enjoy. Those with specific interests, whether it be on nature, culture or gastronomy will also find something special worth discovering in the region.

If you are interested in knowing more about the cultural heritage and history of Norway's Arctic Circle, then the museums should be on top of your list. There are quite a number of them in the area. If you are visiting Mo i Rana, you can check out the open-air museum of Helgeland to get a glimpse of its resident's lifestyle back in the 1700s until the 1900s.

You can also examine 21 centuries-old buildings housed in the museum. There is also the Rana Museum nearby where you will discover plenty of exhibits on the cultural and natural history of the Rana region. If you are in Lovund, its Coastal Museum is a must visit. This charming building, with a seafront view, displays a wide array of collections on fishing, local boats, birds and art exhibitions. Other notable museums in the area are Ranheimbrygga in Korgen, Bygdemuseum in Nesna and Havdurbrygga in Rodoy.

Those who enjoy a tranquil day just casting lines and waiting for the big bite can do so with breathtaking views along the coast of Helgeland. There are several deep-sea fishing camps along the coastline that will provide you with everything you need to have a great time. If it is winter, you might want to try the novelty of ice fishing. Just pick your spot from among the thousands of frozen lakes in the Arctic Circle.

You can also visit several farms for fresh produce and local products. Pruglhei Farm is the place to go for fresh vegetables and mouthwatering cured hams. If you pine for some yummy cheeses, then pass by the Straumbotn Farm. If you are looking for some local jams and spices, the Litlehaug Herb Farm is a must. Those who are interested in Sami food and handicrafts should check out Villmarksstua in Bleikvasslia.

The Castle Marble is another must-see attraction in the area. It is a landscape of marble boulders, potholes, glaciers and waterfalls. If you love waterfalls and would like to get close to one, then you can join a tour to Nattmoraga Waterfall at Melfjord and take a shower right under the stunning cascade while onboard your chartered boat. From there, you can choose to go further along the fjord until you catch sight of the seal colony and its interesting residents.

Finally, you can simply hop on a car and take a drive along the Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park. You can start from Nordfjord at the coast and go east along a scenic montage of towering peaks, verdant valleys and awe-inspiring glaciers until you reach the border.  It is a worthwhile trip especially for those who love magnificent views.
